D'Youville Captures Women's DI National Championship
D’Youville University 63 St. Mary of the Woods College 56
D’Youville University used an 18-0 run to come back for a 63-58 victory over St. Mary of the Woods College in the USCAA Division I Championship game. In the final seconds of the third quarter, the Saints trailed 47-33 before Sara Pfeiffer connected on a three-pointer to make it an 11-point game heading into the final ten minutes. They used that momentum, scored the next 15 points over the first seven minutes of the 4th quarter, and took the lead for good. Kathryn Perry hit a three-pointer for SMWC to make it 51-50 to stop the run. D’Youville never let them any closer and was able to close the game out on a 12-6 run. They closed the fourth quarter with a 27-9 advantage on the scoreboard. Tournament Most Valuable Player Pfeiffer led the Saints with 28 points (15 for 16 from the foul line). Anna Jankovic had 10 points and nine rebounds, Riley Riedel finishd with nine points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocks, and Vleer-Elliott added seven points off the bench. Sydney Ingram and Destiny Thomas both finished with 10 points while Allyson Hardiek finished with five points and 15 rebounds. D’Youville shot 33.3% from the field, was 4 for 16 from three-point land, and hit 23-27 at the foul line (15 for 16 in the 4 th quarter). St. Mary of the Woods shot 29.7% from the field, was 6 for 12 from three, and 12 for 17 from the line.
