Southern Maine CC Wins Men's DII National Championship
Southern Maine CC 79 Johnson & Wales Charlotte 75
Southern Maine Community College jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and for the third straight never trailed as they defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 79-75 to claim the USCAA Division II Championship. The Seawolves shot 46.7% in the first half and led 36-28 at the break but Johnson & Wales didn’t go away and cut into the lead right out of the halftime break. SMCC answered every Wildcat advance and held off the last minute comeback. Zachary Mickle led the Seawolves with 20 points while Ian Regan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Anderrson Kavutse came off the bench and notched a double-double with 12
points and 10 boards. De’Andre Williams led the Wildcats with 24 points off the bench on 8 for 9 shooting. Nathan Meshida connected on two 3-pointers in the final minutes and finished with 14. Anthony Ray also finished with 14 while Fred Patterson had seven points and 10 boards. SMCC shot 41.3% from the field, was 5 from 17 from three, and 22 for 24 from the foul line (17 for 19 in the second half). They held a 44 to 34 advantage on the boards. Johnson & Wales shot 44.2% from the field and hit 7 of 23 three point attempts (5 for 14 in the second half). They struggled from the line hitting only 22 of their 39 attempts
